The planning for NeurIPS 2026 has already begun, and we are excited to have joined this year as co-General Chairs for the conference, and to make our contributions to this important meeting in our field’s annual calendar.
NeurIPS is a large conference and its organization continues to be mostly driven by volunteers from our community committed to its success. As we start this process, we hope to have as wide a set of people from which to select as chairs for the conference. Please consider nominating yourself, or someone you know, as an organiser for one of the roles in the conference, or in a generalist role that you think might serve the conference better. Serving as an organiser is a great way to build experience of crafting large scientific meetings and balancing the many tradeoffs involved, helps build new networks, and a great way to give back to the community in a way that is different from reviewing and workshops.
We encourage early nominations, as submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We will keep the community informed as plans for this year’s conference continue to take shape, including which existing and new roles will be offered for the 2026 edition. Different roles may involve different levels of workload and time commitments, and detailed expectations will be communicated as appropriate.
The main venue of NeurIPS 2026 will be in Sydney, Australia. Chairs are encouraged, though not required, to participate in person. While chairing is primarily a volunteer role, we aim to provide appropriate financial support, in various forms and subject to budget availability, to facilitate in-person attendance. Further details can be clarified as planning progresses.
The Neural Information Processing Systems Foundation is announcing today a $500,000 donation to OpenReview, reinforcing our commitment to the infrastructure that enables rigorous scholarly publishing in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
A Critical Partnership
For years, OpenReview has served as the backbone of peer review for NeurIPS and numerous other premier conferences in our field. The OpenReview team have pioneered open and transparent peer review systems that support the scale and pace required by modern AI research. The platform has handled hundreds of thousands of submissions annually while maintaining double-blind review standards and facilitating meaningful scholarly exchange.
This partnership has been essential to NeurIPS’s mission of fostering the exchange of research advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning through the highest ethical standards for a diverse and inclusive community.
Supporting Recovery and Evolution
The recent security incident affecting OpenReview and multiple conferences across our field underscored the critical importance of this infrastructure and the shared imperative to safeguard the integrity of peer review against escalating global security threats and increasingly sophisticated attempts at manipulation. The machine learning community relies on platforms like OpenReview to function effectively, and ensuring the resilience and continued strength of these providers benefits all of us.
This donation is intended to help OpenReview grow its team to the required scale, strengthen security infrastructure, implement enhanced manipulation guards, and continue evolving their platform to meet the growing needs of our community. We believe that robust, well-resourced infrastructure is fundamental to the integrity and progress of scientific research in our field.
A Call to Action
The speed at which knowledge exchange must happen in machine learning and AI demands sophisticated tools and platforms. OpenReview represents years of development and refinement to create systems that serve our community’s unique needs. No single conference or institution can sustain such infrastructure alone.
Looking Forward
The machine learning community stands at an unprecedented moment of growth and impact. Maintaining the integrity and functionality of our scholarly publishing infrastructure is essential to ensuring that this growth continues to serve science and society. OpenReview and platforms like it are not peripheral to our work—they are fundamental enablers of the rapid, rigorous exchange of ideas that drives progress in our field.
This donation reflects the NeurIPS Foundation’s commitment to supporting the infrastructure and organizations that make our community possible. We look forward to continuing our partnership with OpenReview and to seeing our field’s infrastructure grow stronger and more resilient in the years ahead.

Responsible reviewing initiatives for NeurIPS 2025
In its third year, the NeurIPS Creative AI track returns with a bold theme: Humanity. As generative models compose, hallucinate, remix, and persuade — What does it mean to be human in the presence of machines that feel increasingly alive? We invite researchers and artists working at the edge of AI/ML and creative practice to explore this question through two formats: Papers (2–6 pages, poster format) and Artworks (video submission + 3-page PDF). Submit work that responds to or redefines the theme of Humanity through code, sound, image, motion, performance, architecture, or design. The submission deadline is August 2 (Anywhere on Earth).
